Say Goodbye to iconic Toys “R” Us in Times Square

I was like a kid in a candy store when I stepped into the three-storey Toys “R” Us flagship store in Times Square, New York city a few years back.

It’s hard not to go all giddy in this toy wonderland. There is an entire level filled with all sorts of candy that would make an adult go nuts, much less the kids, a 60-foot tall functioning Ferris Wheel that kids wait patiently in long lines to get on, and then there’s the imposing 20-foot high animatronic T-Rex that greets you in the middle of the store. On top of all that, there’re statues and figures made out of Lego bricks and life-sized superhero figures peppered all over the place.

This Toys “R” Us doesn’t feel like a store, but more like a place of fun for the kids and the kid in us. Even if you don’t walk out of the store with a bag in your hand, you’ll be sure to stroll out with a smile on your face, which is why it’s a tad depressing this awesome place is going the way of FAO Schwarz on 5th Avenue.

With its closing by the month’s end, there isn’t anything like this iconic Toys “R” Us store left, a place where kids wander in awe and amazement, where adults can suspend reality and bask in the colorful superhero themes and Lego paradise.

In the meantime, thank you for the memories, Toys “R” Us.
